On June 3rd (Sunday), we have a local festival called “JAMOKAMO MATSURI” at Dounen Inari Shrine. This is a Festival to ward off the bad evils. Ja(snakes) and Ka(mosquitos) are symbols of bad evils. We hold this festival to pray to God for our good health and good harvest. You can see a lot of local people parading through the town while carrying a gigantic snake made of thatch on their shoulders.

※KAYA( thatch):Traditional plants used for roof of Japanese houses.

 

June 3rd (Sun.)

08:30 Starts for parading at Dounen Inari Shrine.

(Access to the shrine: 4-27, Namamugi, Tsurumi-ku

10 minutes walk from Namamugi station of Keikyu Line.)

11:00 Three gigantic snakes made of thatch get together at Namamugi Elementary School and then start for parading.
